Cotswold History From The British Pathe Archive

Picture: 142 Wardour Street, former home of Associated-British Pathé, by Redvers, on Wikimedia Commons.

I have recently been exploring a fantastic resource for historians – the British Pathé archive. There are several films about both rural history and Cotswold-specific items.

You can view footage of rural skills, or look at snapshots of Cotswold village life. One of my favourites is a 1962 film of life in Broadway (unfortunately, the site won’t let me embed the film here as you have to buy it first, but you can view it on the British Pathé site without having to buy first).

    Hi there,

I work for the British Pathe archive. Thanks for writing about us for your readers. You can watch all 90,000 newsreels for free on the website, and even put collections together of your favourites. Remember to find us on Facebook too where we discuss a lot of the footage.

    Thanks,
    Jack
