At the beginning of August, I visited Cotswold Lavender, a lavender grower and distiller based in Snowshill, near Broadway.
Cotswold Lavender has been growing lavender for three generations, with the existing fields planted 12 years ago. The company says the growing conditions are perfect because the fields sit on free draining limestone soils. There are now over 35 different varieties of lavender grown on site, as you can see from the video below – look at the different colours that are visible.
The company produces a wide range of lavender products, and has a fantastic cafe and shop on site – well worth a visit if you’re in the area. After my visit, and armed with a pot of culinary lavender, I made some rather tasty (if I say so myself) lavender scones and shortbread.
Lavender might not be something you associate with the Cotswolds, but it’s gaining something of a history here – and hopefully, a good future too.
